Homestead Swims in Front

Homestead swept the NHC swimming honors for both boys and girls, but the Norwell teams both finished a respectable third.

Paige Brink, Logan Brink and Luke Towne each were first team all-conference picks Saturday at the 2008 Northeast Hoosier Conference girls and boys swimming and diving championships at Fort Wayne.

The trio was selected after helping the Norwell Knights take third place in the girls and boys team scoring.

Homestead swept first-place NHC honors in the girls and boys meets, while Carroll swept second place in girls and boys action.

The Homestead Spartan girls racked up 559 points, followed by Carroll with 383 and Norwell with 283.5. DeKalb was fourth with 238, East Noble fifth with 225, Columbia City sixth with 194.5 and Bellmont seventh with 144.

Homestead topped the Carroll boys 557-462. Norwell tallied 276 points, East Noble 267, Columbia City 192, DeKalb 144 and Bellmont 132.

Senior Paige Brink was the only first-place finisher in the finals, swimming the 200-yard freestyle in 1:57.13 to defeat Homestead’s McKenzie Bagan, who was second in 1:58.06.
