In the 2A pairings, Luers (12-7) draws Bluffton (12-7)In 3A, the 2007 state runner-up and top-ranked Wawasee (16-2) will play host to NorthWood (13-5) in the first game. All seven teams in the sectional are .500 or better.
At another 3A site, No. 2 Elmhurst (18-2) drew host Maconaquah (14-5) in the second game, while No. 11 Norwell (14-4) will play NHC rival Bellmont (12-7) in the bye game.
Bishop Luers travels to Bluffton in a Class 2A opener. Not only is it a matchup of the two top teams in the sectional, but Tigers coach Glenn Cunningham gets a chance to see firsthand what he passed on in the offseason.Cunningham, a veteran girls basketball coach, completed his first year with Bluffton last season and finished with a 12-10 record. Then the Luers head coaching position opened when [Sevens member] Teri Rosinski resigned and moved to California.
Cunningham expressed interest in the Luers' job and interviewed for the position.
He ultimately decided to remain at Bluffton.
