Tabitha Gerardot (a sophomore) scored 16 points and grabbed a state Class A record of 17 rebounds as Fort Wayne Canterbury edged University 36-32 in the lowest-scoring state championship game in Indiana girls basketball history. The game would almost have to be close, with so few points scored.
Both teams had more turnovers than baskets in today's game as they failed to produce the performances that earned each their first trip to the state finals.
Canterbury (21-5) shot only 28 percent from the field and had 23 turnovers and 14 baskets. University (20-7) had 14 baskets and 23 turnovers while shooting 25 percent from the field.
The game was close all the way.
