Who, today, can match Lee Marvin or Ernest Borgnine? Many stars from the past served in the military, stars like Charles Bronson, who was a tail gunner on B-29's over Japan, Charles Durning who earned a Silver Star in the Army Rangers at Normandy, James Arness (first out of the boat onto Anzio Beach during the invasion of Italy), and Jimmy Stewart as a bomber pilot over Germany. But, of course, many tough guys didn't serve (John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, etc.). For some reason, though, some of the current tough guys just don't seem believable... Christian Bale? Viggo Mortensen? No..... I'd rather see Chuck Norris and Scott Glenn tear up the screen any day.
