Hillary's name in Nomination

It's being reported that the Senators Clinton and Obama campaigns have struck a deal where Senator Clinton's name will be placed in nomination for President next week:

"Both sides agree that it is in the best interest of party unity and making sure that everyone's voice and vote is honored to make sure her name is put into nomination," a person close the negotiations said. "It's to honor everyone who worked so hard on both sides."

This is meant to ease the hurt feelings of the Clinton supporters... but it sure sounds like a dangerous move for the Obama camp... I mean, once someone else is nominated... anything can happen...

Some details are still being worked out, but Clinton's name will be put into nomination at the Denver convention on Wednesday. That will be one day after Clinton addresses the convention.

"This truly was a joint decision," according to the Clinton source. "This wasn't something she was itching for, looking for. But so many of her supporters said it was important to them. And the Obama people got how important it was to smooth over any tensions and that it was the right thing to do."

What also hasn't been settled yet is who will nominate Clinton and whether she will stand up with the New York delegation when they are called on.

What has been settled, however, is that after both Clinton and Obama names are placed into nomination there will be a roll call vote.

What has also been hashed out is that at some point during the convention, Clinton will release her delegates officially to Obama and that she will make it very clear that she is voting for Obama, the source said.

Interesting... I'm sure she has no intention to welch on that deal... but, you know how it is, one can't deny the voice of the people...

the Democrat Convention should be a real trip this time around.

Clinton Holds Whites

I just cannot understand why organizations that go out of their way to accuse and publicize every instance of racism they can dig out, then turn around and write headlines like this one from the AP:

Not only does the Associated Press try keep track of who Blacks vote for and who Whites vote for, who men vote for and who women vote for, they continually focus on the the race and sex of the candidates.

C.J.'s Law

U.S. Senator Evan Bayh will hold a press conference call today to discuss "C.J.'s Law" The bill would require all new mobile homes to come installed with Weather Radios to warn families of imminent severe weather events. This is a Federal version of a similar Indiana bill which was passed into law. The radios cost about $30 each.

Since this week is Weather Awareness week, I'll make Senator Bayh aware that Walmart has a nice Emerson Weather Band Radio available for eight bucks.

Free Speech

I don't know if you've followed the story of Berkeley, California drafting a letter to the Marine recruiters they were not only unwanted, but called them intruders... some US Senators decided to push back and remove public funding from Berkeley and send the money to benefit Marine causes.

Berkeley officials have backed off, but I thought this quote was interesting, from a "Code Pink" protester:

"I was under the impression that we have the right of free speech," said Xanne Joi of Code Pink. "To me, I thought free speech meant you get to say what you want without recrimination."

Where did Xanne go to school? The First Amendment doesn't protect you from recrimination, it protects your right to say whatever you want. She might have noticed this each time her cohorts get arrested for screaming confrontations during Congressional Hearings.
