New Zealand's Scott Dixon claimed the pole for this year's Indy 500 with a four lap average speed of 226.366 mph. The fastest four lap average ever was in 1996 when Arie Luyendyk made the trip in an average 236.986 mph. The 200 mph barrier was broken in 1981 and the track appears to be maxed out at it's current speed limit without changes in banking.
